Ponds

We have few standing water habitats in the village. Chelker Reservoir sits just outside our parish boundary! The largest waterbody is the Saw Mill Dam, created over two hundred years ago to power an early textile mill.

There are, however, many garden ponds, two new school ponds, a number of ponds on allotments and several good-sized ponds on surrounding farmland.

Wildlife ponds are important to sustain populations of amphibians (especially frogs and newts) and invertebrates (especially dragonflies and damselflies).

We encourage everyone in the village to build a wildlife pond, however small!
